The 2019 shake-up 🧘
I have not stopped shaking
since the earthquake.
It starts, tremulous,
in my head and sloshes
down into my gut.
It is a barely perceptible
shift, a rocking
of an uneasy person.
I crave the movement now,
because something seismic
is less scary
than a shifting self.
I haven’t been able to get that last sentence out of my head since I wrote it back in 2019–change is scary, growth is hard, and sometimes you’d rather lose your whole footing than have to endure the uncertainty of evolution.
