Growing lessons from a plant 🌿
My dieffenbachia has grown
two leaves in two years, reminding
me I do not have to grow
out of my pot right now.
Instead, I can tend to myself
during this slow photosynthesis:
soothe my spindles, bring breath
to my space, check on my roots
and see they’re not tangled. When the sunlight of a busy world
is back, I’ll turn over a new leaf.
Many of us are like houseplants with okay-but-not-ideal-conditions right now. We’re existing, but we’re not yet blooming into our best, and I think that’s okay. Someday we’ll all move to a little chalet in the south facing window, where we’ll thrive.
